A Sign of Things to Come or Just a Phase...

I'm hoping these last few days are just a phase Leah is going through and not a sign of things to come.  This latest little "phase" has to do with Leah's napping schedule.  Up until last Friday my sweet baby was taking 3 naps a day.  While I sometimes cursed these 3 naps because it was rather hard to get out and do things without interrupting nap time, I also loved the predictability of the naps and how easy it was to get her down.  For the past two days, Leah has only taken 1 nap!  While today's nap was almost 2 1/2 hours, my baby who normally not used to be able to be awake more than 2 hours is now staying awake almost 5 hours.  I'm okay with her cutting out her third nap, but I'm not sure I'm ready for her to go from three naps to one!  I'm hoping this is just a result of her learning to crawl and that we can get back on a normal nap time routine soon!

New Toys

I've introduced Leah to some new toys, kitchen utensils and she loves them!  I think she (and myself) is getting a little bored with some of her toys and ready for something more exciting.

Once she gets bored with these, we'll try the entire cabinet.  In the meantime, I'm on the hunt for more grown-up toys, basically anything that lights up and makes noise (my worst nightmare!).

Letters to Leah Month 8

Happy 8 Month Birthday Leah!
Here are some of your happenings this month:
-You weigh 16.5 lbs (23 percentile)
- You aren't crawling yet, but you are getting so close!  You get on all fours and rock back and forth, but you just haven't taken that first crawl.  Right now you're content to get everywhere by log rolling.
- You are still taking 2-3 naps each day.
- You eat 2 solid meals a day, so far your favorite seem to be pear chunks and peaches.  You love to try to feed yourself and you're getting pretty good.  We haven't found anything that you really don't like, maybe peas.
- You're wearing size 2 diapers and size 6-9 and 9 month clothes.
- You like to sleep with your kitty, Pursley, he is well loved.
- You've turned into quite a little busy body and you love to look around and see what everyone is doing. You are easily distracted.
- You love to play peek-a-boo and sing "Wheels on the Bus"
- You're just such a sweet happy baby!

She's Learning

Leah's been working on a couple of new tricks recently.
She's learning to feed herself.  Right now we've just tried puffs and bananas, but she loves picking things up off her tray and trying to feed herself.   She's even gotten better since I shot this video yesterday.  Bring on the finger food suggestions!

 

She's also working on crawling.  She usually goes from sitting to all fours and then does a belly flop, but each day she gets a little further.  I feel like such a mean mom because once she gets to a toy I move it a foot away from her to make her reach for it.  Since she hasn't learned to crawl yet log rolling is still her preferred method of movement.  

It's That Time of Year Again...

Strawberry picking time!  You may remember this post about my first strawberry picking adventure.  This year I've been to pick strawberries twice!  A couple of weeks ago one of the mom's groups I follow had a special at a local farm.  When an adult picked $10 worth of strawberries the kid got a pint free.  Leah wasn't exactly old enough to pick her own, but I'd been looking for reason to pick strawberries and we took advantage of the deal.  Then a week later we were at Tim's parents for the weekend and went to pick more strawberries at a local berry patch, nothing's better than fresh strawberries.

 I didn't really know what to expect at the first berry farm and I was a little worried when I got there because I was by myself and I wasn't sure how I was going to entertain Leah and pick strawberries at the same time, but Leah sat on the ground on my jacket and played with the straw while I picked.  Had I known what to expect I would have taken the stroller or something else to sit on, but it worked out fine. 

 

I didn't do much with the first round of strawberries, I made a strawberry pie and several strawberry milkshakes with the second round.  Tim said this pie might have been the best thing I've ever made (that's not saying much), I will say it was pretty good!
